It was an honour…

An open letter to Prime Minister Julia Gillard…

Dear Prime Minister (for you will always be), Julia to your closest friends and family.

For those of us that got to meet you in person and even have a 5 minute ‘chat’ it was hard to miss your smile and your warmth.  The truth with which you spoke your heart, resonated with us, it made us love you even more.

Under the worst punishment and duress, the rudest words, the most hurtful comments by your fellow Parliamentarians and Journalists – left and right – you were hit – and you just got up, shook yourself off and handled the knock downs with dignity and poise.  A true lady, humble, honourable, strong, articulate and loving most of all.

You have left a legacy for the Australian people that goes beyond the Budget, beyond the 576 Bills that YOUR Government passed while in office, beyond the rhetoric.  Your legacy is for our daughters, they will look back at your time as Prime Minister and know, deep in their hearts, that the top IS possible.  They will be inspired by your many speeches in Parliament – the Misogyny Speech notwithstanding – They will look to how you handled yourself and will see that they do NOT need to act like the men around them to succeed.

You were a leader, an accomplished leader of a Party that I love, I love the core values of the Labor Party – that stand for people before money. You were true to those values, you were true to yourself and you were true to your Oath to serve as Prime Minister with honour and respect.

Thank you Prime Minister Gillard for your service and your care.  I for one will miss seeing you in Question Time.

May you go with grace.

Yours a true supporter

Lisa
