For my overseas followers I live in Australia, land of Koalas and Kangaroos, Uluru, The Great Barrier Reef, The Great Australian Bight, (yeah we are great.)  Old growth forests in Tasmania and untouched coast line in our North that is inhabited only by its traditional land owners.

So in this land of Great and wonderful, unique and awesome, why is our Federal Government and some of our State Governments hell bent on destroying our greatness?  Allowing offshore oil companies the right to destroy our protected wildlife reserves so Billionaires can become Trillionaires (the only motivation is money.)  Now to do this they must first clear the land of inhabitants, so the Western Australian Government wants to close down whole Indigenous communities because it’s “too expensive” to provide water and electricity to these out of the way communities.  How ironic though that it wouldn’t be too expensive to provide these same utilities to Adani and Co to run their oil drilling and fracking operations.

The QLD Government of old (Liberal) was complicit in auctioning off sections of the North Eastern coastline to Oil companies and dredging dirty great holes in our ocean floor, to allow for ships to come into port and move oil around the World.

In recent days protests against the closure of Indigenous communities have taken place all over Australia, great numbers of people marched in the streets, the protest in Melbourne closed down the city traffic for hours- the numbers so great. http://goo.gl/8XiBUA (ABC report here).

Protests have been held in regards to dredging the Barrier Reef and fracking the Northern Territory outback.

Australia is in an uproar, rarely before have people come out in these numbers to protest the actions of a Government that was freely elected by the people.  A Government which no longer holds the belief of the people that voted it in. World Wide our Government is being described as heartless and lacking integrity.

Nowhere moreso than in its treatment of asylum seekers. The alleged conditions of our offshore processing concentration camps of Nauru and Manus Island is described as inhumane. Women and children subjected to sexual and physical abuse by armed guards. Children allegedly threatening to commit suicide rather than spend another day being tortured. http://goo.gl/3Ob7Kl Human Rights Commission Report.

Instead of heeding the findings of the Human Rights Commission Report, this Government chooses to vilify Professor Gillian Triggs and destroy her reputation. http://goo.gl/HTIyCU

There was movement at the station for the word had got around the colt from old regret had got away.  Australian’s shouldn’t wait til it’s too late and need the Man from Snowy River to save us all from ourselves.  There will be more protests, stand up and be counted, the time for action is now, before it’s too late.  Before Australia is sold to the lowest bidder and our outback and our ocean becomes unsalvageable.

Asylum seeking is a right and as a wealthy first world nation we should be opening our doors. What are we so scared of?
